Brief Info on Atherton

  • The Atherton Tablelands district is naturally air-conditioned, with altitudes of 1100 m at its highest

  • Extensive volcanic activity influenced & shaped the now extinct landscape

  • Today, conical hills, crater lakes, rich red soils and unique ancient rainforest remain.  The rainforest in northern Queensland are believed to be the world's oldest.

  • Settled by pioneers in the 1880's, the Tablelands are rich in the history of its heritage.  Historical villages, museums and various tourist attractions are wonderfully preserved by the locals.

"Land of weird fauna... Wondrous
flora...Land of the Coral Barrier, of
coral-girdled green islands, of jungle-
covered tropical mountains...
Land  that shows a diversity and
beauty of scenery surpassed by no
other on the face of the earth..."
